The faculty in the Engineering Management (EMGT) Program have extensive hands-on business experience as consultants, entrepreneurs, plant managers, board members, and executives. Many have, or currently work in engineering companies in the Kansas City metro area.

Diversity and Experience of Students

Students in KU's Engineering Management Program have experience as practicing professionals, employed in manufacturing; consulting and other service businesses; or  government at the local, state, or federal level.

There are approximately 110 Engineering Management majors in the Program, and over 850 alumni.  Current majors are 14% international, 16% minority,  and 16% female.

EMGT typically has 10 to 20 students participating in Distance Learning from throughout the United States, and internationally.

EMGT's graduates have come from China, Colombia, Ecuador, Ghana, India, Jordan, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, and Turkey.

Students have ranged in age from 24 to 66, with average age being 31.

10% of EMGT majors already hold a Master's degree.

EMGT's majors hold a variety of undergraduate degrees:

  • 22% in Computer Engineering and Computer Science
  • 19% in Civil Engineering
  • 18% in Electrical Engineering
  • 15% in Mechanical Engineering
  • 26% in other engineering or science disciplines
